Promoters ignore local artists

14 Aug, 2017, No comments

The entertainment industry for Africans by Africans in Cyprus is slowly growing but incapacitated by lack of proper funding, promotion and appreciation especially Hip-Hop music.

I have heard of several African music artists in Cyprus but I believe there are many who are composing but less heard or not distributing their music at all.

There are several recording labels owned by Africans that is Zimbabweans and Nigerians. Usually Africans prefer recording to African owned studios because of language barrier, different taste in music and studio costs. However, music is a universal Language.

Some music promoters are concentrating on bigger artists coming from their home countries. I believe they have to continue helping, grooming and managing talent that they have on their disposal.

Music promoters should host more concerts to establish and grow talent that we have. We have so much talent bottled struggling to come out be heard and seen it in music or cooking. This is an opportunity to nurture those aspiring to be music artists.

Those who are singing Gospel music are tremendously shining bright in churches and receive awesome audiences during church services.

There are few gospel concerts held to improve gospel artists’ creativeness and increase exposure in the genre outside church gatherings.

Some perform in restaurants and clubs as a way to showcase the best of what they can do.

Furthermore, number of standup comedians is on increase. Comedians mostly perform at their local Universities when studies begins.

During holidays, there are few places if none to conduct their performances since Africans are their audiences and mostly gather around Universities.

Africans needs more staging to improve their talents and recognition. Music promoters should try to develop talent they have into bigger brands and organise more shows for aspiring music artists.
